Discover your true self with Outdoor therapy

As an outdoor walk and talk therapist, I’m mindful that even on the same familiar route, each session can feel remarkably different. This week, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow on the autumnal trees, I was reminded of the unique nature of human experience and the importance of celebrating our individuality.

Rogers’ Theory of Uniqueness

Carl Rogers, a pioneer in person-centred therapy, emphasised the concept of uniqueness. He believed that each individual has their own unique perspective and experience of the world. This idea aligns perfectly with my theoretical training and the outdoor therapy sessions that I deliver. While the physical environment may remain constant, the emotional and psychological landscape shifts with each encounter.

The Changing Seasons of Life

Just as the seasons change, so too do our lives. We experience periods of growth, decline, and renewal. These cycles can be reflected in my outdoor therapy sessions. Sometimes, we may feel grounded and steady, like the sturdy trees in autumn. Other times, we might be feeling more vulnerable and uncertain, like leaves that move and blow in the breeze. Regardless of where we find ourselves, the beauty lies in embracing the journey and acknowledging the unique nature of our experience.

Celebrating Our Differences

In person-centred therapy, we celebrate the diversity of human experience. We believe that each individual is valuable and worthy of respect, regardless of their background, beliefs, or challenges. By acknowledging our differences, we can foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.

As we walk through life, remember the importance of embracing our uniqueness. Just as each leaf has its own distinct shape and colour, so too does each person have their own unique story. By celebrating our differences and fostering a non-judgmental approach, we can create a space where individuals feel safe, seen, and heard.
